Let's Restore the Pride Dignity and Quality to Local 58

The Gross National Debt

What I would change if I were Business Manager of Local 58:

First of all, I would definitely hire some new Agents who would WORK 4 U.  That’s not to say a few of the existing Agents aren’t good men and have the best interest of the Local at Heart. But our new selection of Agents would be handled a whole lot differently than this past administration. Agents would be selected with the help of the NEW Executive Board based on their desire to serve the membership and their history of Union activity…NOT on political cronyism and pandering and size of political contribution….in other words they won’t be “buying” their position.

NEW Agents would be required to account for their time and their mileage….just like in Chicago and other major Locals.  They would be given an area and MUST visit the jobs in that area every 2 weeks; report in to the Steward; and the Steward would then send back a postcard to the Local giving the day, date, and time the Agent actually was ON THE JOB!   What a Concept!  ACCOUNTABILITY to the Membership!

IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE

Secondly, I would petition the NEW TRUSTEES to REPLACE the Administrator with someone who, again, has the BEST INTEREST of the Membership at heart. This NEW Administrator would immediately be accountable to the Members and their Spouses. He or She would be required to provide Courteous Service and not Lip-Service to any and all questions that may be asked. Our members deserve better! I don’t ever want to hear an Administrator of MY Union Funds telling me at a meeting “I don’t work for you”. That attitude will Cease and Desist Immediately!

IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE

IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE

Joe Abdoo stated in his 2003 campaign newsletter :

"Our Health and Welfare Funds have needed adjustments. The FACTS are:

When work was plentiful, we built reserves to unprecedented levels."

THE TRUTH IS: If that statement even vaguely resembled the truth, why then are our Health & Welfare Funds in the shape they are in? And why, then, did we just use our last raise to again bolster this fund?  "Who's Zoomin' Who?"

This New Administrator would be instructed to acquire No Fee ATM cards for every member who has an Annuity/401-whatever- account at 58!  It’s ludicrous for you to have all your hard earned money invested through their Bank and still have to pay for the use of their lousy ATM machine. They make a helluva lot of profits from our Fund. It’s time to give a little back to the members!

Also, to address the needs of laid off members: there will be NO more of this policy of discrimination against those who are financially nearing bankruptcy and are being told NO MORE LOANS from YOUR Account….EVER!  That was never intended as the policy of the IRS and should NOT be the policy of this  ANTI-Member Administrator who is making over 140,000 a year and has perks for trips junkets/conventions/seminars and God -only -knows where else he travels to get these Member Un-Friendly ideas of his.

Thirdly, we would take an aggressive approach to re-gaining Market Share in our jurisdiction once again. Local 58 will no longer be taking its lead from the ABC…Local 58 WILL ONCE AGAIN LEAD!

IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE

IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE

The issue of transparency of our “Duct Tape Fund” will be addressed. No longer will it be cloaked in secrecy and run from their cigar-smoke filled back rooms or as one cigar-puffing crony likes to brag  “From Behind The Glass” of their “Inner Sanctum”.

That Fund should and WILL be as open as any of the other Funds of this Local to the Members. The lack of candor that has been the benchmark of this administration -Team certainly raises the question of impropriety among this membership. “If ya ain’t doin’ nuttin wrong..then why ya hidin’ it”?

Members should be invited to attend open meetings of the Executive Board….to see and hear how a Union operates; to observe how the functions of these Officers impact the lives of the members.  Members concerned about issues should and would be able to address the members of the Executive Board and get a better understanding of the problems we face together. Trial Boards would still be handled as private matters.

Advertising as you know it will cease immediately! No more useless radio ads. We work hard to earn our money and we should expect that it be spent wisely, with member input.

IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE

As you may have noticed, I am proposing to introduce a level of Democracy for this Local. And the Code of Ethics I proposed 2 years ago would become Local 58’s “Code of Agents Excellence” in a matter of days!   (see Code of Ethics)

As an added bonus, I would hope that this astute membership will elect a new President who will NOT Embarrass us at every turn!  Sort of brings us back to the old days in the early 90’s when every meeting was an adventure in confusion.

AND PLEASE Don't Forget to Vote a NEW Executive Board into office!

IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE

Democracy for 58!  What a concept!

There are three types of men. The one who learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.

The Wisdom of Will Rogers

Politicians and Diapers Should be Changed Often for the Same Reason....

Remember This:  The WORST RECORD of ANY Administration

in the entire history of the IBEW Local 58!

  • The Most Unemployed members
    • For the Longest Period of Time

(Pretty Soon They'll be written up in Ripley's Believe It Or Not!)

IT's TIME FOR A CHANGE

Like the Way things have been going for the past 9 years??? Time For A Change ???

Or are You Really Dumb Enough to think things are Going to get better on their Own?

INSANITY has been defined as doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.

Editorial Comment on Newletter Report

Don’t know about you, brothers and sisters, but after reading the latest newsletter from Team Abdoo, I’m really disgusted! It says ““Our targeting program includes renewal and continuation of advertising…We recently renewed our Freedom Hill advertising agreement...”

I knew Joey wasn’t the brightest bulb in the pack, but does he have to prove it time and time again?

This “appointed” BM has held an office at local 58 for well over 12 years and he is just now asking the question “What should we be doing to sustain ourselves and our health and retirement plans?”

I would have expected him to be offering answers and solutions. In other words a PLAN!!!!  Joe’s newsletter report proves that these guys are clueless.

Let’s spend our Target money on more advertising….after all, our buddies at the radio station throw a helluva golf outing, and the concerts…we couldn’t ask for better seats. Let’s keep the freebies coming!

Remember “Good 4 U, Good 4 Rajewski and his buddies” ? These are the radio ads that all the other tradesmen were laughing at us about. And now, Brothers & Sisters, get ready for the next round of being the laughing stock of the Building Trades.

Instead of pissing more of our hard earned dues money away on useless radio ads, why don’t you help the brothers and sisters who you screwed out of their sub money? Remember the “temporary” decrease in benefits ? How many years is "Temporary" in your book?

Energy bills, food costs, gas to drive to the hall hoping to get a job; all of these costs have sky-rocketed and still you insist on penalizing the “least of my brethren”.

We are only as strong as our weakest link. Never changed. Never will. As long as one member of 58 is hurting, then this entire local is hurting! It’s an old concept we’ve lost sight of through these last 9 years of greed and back-stabbing.

Let’s talk about your “salting” as a cure-all for our work picture. Last year I witnessed one of your “salts” working scab for a non-union contractor who just dropped out of the local. And when your illustrious B/A finally showed up on the job after numerous phone calls and messages from disgusted members, he didn’t even know who he was endorsing checks for. When he got there, his first question was “What’s this guy look like?”  This guy played us all for a sucker and bragged about getting his benefits and vacation money mailed to his house.  He even told the other non-union guys that he was going to get everything he could out of 58.

Between Moran and Webb, they couldn’t identify the guy because they never met him! This “sweetheart deal” was done over the phone! And what’s the chance this contractor is going to jump right back into 58 after he just left?

You’re using this salting as a means of subsidizing your buddies when you can’t get them a union job. What about your buddy downriver at A-something Electric, Joe? Is he hiring? Are you busy salting his company? How many other sweetheart deals are you and your agents “salting” using our Target money?

I’ve heard criticism that all I do is take cheap shots at Radjewski and his Team mate Abdoo.  There’s another article entitled Steps to Reclaim Jurisdiction and Market Share on this site. Please read it. I’m trying to get members to consider other plans and ideas and not the same old tired unproductive S T P approach.

S  - Salt     T – Target     P  -  Picket

When they took over the driver’s seat of the 58 bus, these guys were offered the benefit of past experience from a number of dedicated people. Their response was that they didn’t need the help.

Maybe now it’s Time For a Change!  Now that we’ve had the largest lay off list for the longest period in the history of Local 58, ask yourself if it’s time for a change? Or time to try new methods to regain our work? Or are you happy with the way things are?  Think about it! The largest layoff list for the longest period of time in the history of this union! What a legacy Radjewski left with. I’m sure he put that on the top of his Resume at his new job.  And Abdoo has stepped right into it! And it looks as though he’s trying his best to continue the legacy!

Cheap shots?  I don’t think so. Just the Facts.
